Machine Gun Kelly & fans create "The Return" music video
Just after Christmas, Bad Boy rapper Machine Gun Kelly made a special request for fans to be apart of his new video for “The Return” and they delivered. Armed with lyrics to the emotional track, fans of various ages visually communicated MGK‘s sorrowful verses through lip synced submissions. Some recorded solo or in groups; most remained at their desks though a few got a little creative, filming from the street, in cars, under bridges and even on the beach.
“The Return” is one of the most heartfelt songs from the rapper’s Lace Up mixtape; chronicling struggles with friends and family, his not so effortless rise to fame, the loss of a child and more. It’s tracks such as this one that are frankly the reason I’m a fan and hope there are more to come. Including his young supporters in this video was an ingenious move from the Cleveland, Ohio artist who has built an impressive fan base — resulting in being signed by Diddy last Summer. As the song finishes in triumph, the video ends with Kelly rapping the last line, a collage of the contributing co-stars and a question: “Why do we try so hard to fit in when we were born to stand out?”
