'Slavery: The Game', controversial video game
In a world that is flooded with violent video games, Slavery: The Game — which clearly isn’t real — is quite mild. The game allows you to “discipline and exploit” your slaves and become the wealthiest slave trader during the 17th century.
Supposedly set to release on major platforms such as PS3 and XBOX by an unknown Javelin Reds Gaming in Spring 2012, the mere existence of the game trailer is causing frenzy all over the internet. The title alone made my eyes bulge but then I watched the trailer and it started to feel like a joke. Firstly, racists don’t see slavery of any persons as exploitative. Secondly, do you see these damn graphics? Man… what year is this? 1999? This mess looks like an upgrade to Oregon Trail.
The site for the game has no real information and provides only a number and email address info@javelinreds.com, which is a non-functioning. Clearly either an attempt at gaining attention or just pissing people off, Slavery: The Game has many people freaking the hell out while others can’t wait to play. Personally, I enjoy anything that causes a healthy debate since there are both well-informed and complete morons debating the topic on YouTube and gaming forums.
