Lil' B

When I saw tweets like Lil’ B got a song with Phonte and Jean Grae?!? Jesus, what is this world coming to?!? #WTF” I was certain that I was about to be very upset. Apparently it’s a little hard on everyone to see their favorite artists go mainstream, join more popular artists on a song, or ever gain any fans that haven’t been to all of the concerts and rocked their own homemade t-shirts. Every “real Hip-hop” fan thinks they are the only “real Hip-hop” fan and if you love “real Hip-hop” you would have magically stumbled upon artists like Jean Grae by divine selection! Okay, I’m done being facetious… but unless artists collaborate and create a disaster, what is the harm?

@JeanGreasy HOW COULD YOU WORK WITH HIM? YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO BE ONE KIND OF RAPPER AND HE'S ANOTHER KIND OF RAPPER AND THE TWO ARE DIFFERENT

Jean Grae

The point is, while supporting real artistry is key to keeping the art alive, the artists you love are adults and adults have bills and bills are paid with money and money in Hip-hop is not made song by song — money is made with exposure. Thus we have a new track that exposes several people across several sub-genres of Hip-hop in “Base For Your Face” by Lil’ B produced by 9th Wonder featuring Jean Grae, Phonte (of Little Brother and Foreign Exchange). Personally, my eyes light up anytime I see Jean, Phonte, or 9th Wonder on any new project and this one does not disappoint. It seems most are pissed about this track before even hearing it. I’m certainly not inspired to run and look for every Lil’ B track I can find. The song’s debut gives people a chance to learn about an artist they may have never heard of, THAT is big. Enjoy the track below.

I've been a @JeanGreasy fan way before the net got her buzz up. Her doing a song w/ Lil B doesn't mean that his flow's not wack. Sorry.
@1SunRisen
Good money.

I can't get over this, wtfLiL B, Jean Grae, Phonte and 9th Wonder, what is going on here?

Jean’s response

Ooooh... amidst all the love, there's the hate. Shut the fuck up.

      Haha, well as someone who often removes features I don’t like from songs, I can’t hate. Thanks for your comment :)
